Just after sunrise, fog rolled in over the North Platte river.
Sandhill cranes forage for seeds and crustaceans in wetlands and farm fields along the Platte river valley.
Unpaired cranes do courtship dances to attract a mate.
Three cranes flying together may be a family. After up to a month of feasting along the Platte river, yearling cranes are finally ready to leave their parents.
The cranes will eventually continue their migration to their nesting grounds in Canada and Alaska.
