Flowering cactus and sunflowers grow amidst the short grass prairie on the canyon floor. Junipers grow along the canyon walls.

Picketwire Canyon has one of the best preserved dinosaur tracks in North America. The rounded depressions (left side of the picture) are sauropod tracks. The three-toed impressions (right side of the picture) are theropod tracks.
